ALICE: This is Airport Community School's active shooter response protocol. It stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate.

All-Clear: This would be used if a drill, concerning incident or dangerous threat has been resolved. SmartLights would turn green. The building would be deemed safe.

The Boot: This is the tool that is used to barricade doors during a building lockdown. It is housed in a SmartBox and can withstand 16,000 pounds of pressure when fully engaged.

Lockdown: This is a situation when occupants lock themselves inside the rooms of a building. It would be used if there was a dangerous threat in a building. SmartLights would turn red. Law enforcement would be notified. Staff and students would initiate The Boot and follow ALICE protocols.

Lockout: This is a situation when occupants secure the exterior of a building. It would be used if there was something of concern occuring nearby, also called "Secure Mode." SmartLights would turn orange. Staff members would lock their doors.

LockOut Co: This is the Michigan-based company that created and owns the SmartBoot System.

Pull Station: This device instantly activates the SmartBoot System in areas without SmartBoxes or Smart Tablets.

Safety Drill: This is a way to prepare students and staff in the event of a building emergency. Types of drills include Lockdown Drills, Fire Drills and Tornado Drills.

SmartBoot System: This is the comprehensive safety and security system adopted by Airport Community Schools. It includes The Boot door barricading system which interacts with other devices like the SmartBox, Smart Tablets, SmartLights and Pull Stations.

SmartBox: This houses The Boot door barricade and sends visual and audible "lockdown" and "all-clear" alerts.

SmartLights: These are Bluetooth-enabled lights that provide visual building alerts. They blink red for lockdown, orange for secure mode and green for all-clear.

Smart Tablets: These are wireless devices that send and receive alerts from anywhere in the building. They are located in classrooms and offices.

School Resource Officer (SRO): This is a law enforcement officer who works in a school setting. At Airport Community Schools, an SRO is a Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy.

Secure Mode: This would be used when there something of concern in or near our building (i.e. medical incident). SmartLights would turn orange. Staff members would lock their doors.
