Airport Schools Safety Plan

Airport Community Schools is committed to prioritizing the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and school community. Our comprehensive safety plan includes, but is not limited to:

  • A partnership with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office to provide two School Resource Officers (SROs) to protect our school community

  • The SmartBoot System, a state-of-the-art school lockdown and building security system that combines physical safety barricades with Bluetooth technology

  • Extensive building mapping and up-to-date critical incident routing

  • Active shooter response protocol training (ALICE Training) for all staff

  • Approximately 180 video cameras installed throughout the district

  • SchoolMessenger program to mass communicate messages in the event of an emergency

SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS

Airport Community Schools partners with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office to provide two School Resource Officers (SROs) to service the district. SROs are Monroe County Sheriff's Deputies.

Along with providing police presence on the school campus, the goal of an SRO is to mentor and build relationships with the students and staff. They serve as a resource to the school community, while promoting a safe and secure environment. SROs also provide security for most sporting events and facilitate the student DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program.

Airport's School Resource Officers are Deputies Mike Depew and Julianne Venier.

Contact Deputy Depew, who is stationed at Airport High School, at 734-654-4076 or mdepew@airportschools.com. Contact Deputy Venier, who is stationed at Wagar Middle & Junior High School, at 734-654-4085 or jvenier@airportschools.com.
