Scoops & Stories 2022 Begins June 13

Airport Community Schools' summer reading program is back for Summer 2022. Scoops & Stories returns from 6-6:30 p.m. today, Monday, June 13 at Swirls Ice Cream in Newport.

All students entering grades K-6 are eligible to receive a FREE book and ice cream during this fun, weekly event.

The event continues every Monday through Aug. 22, with the exception of July 4. View the attached flier for more information.

Bus Cancellation - Monday, June 13

Due to a lack of bus drivers for a variety of reasons, Bus 12 is canceled this afternoon, Monday, June 13, 2022. Airport High School and Wagar Middle School students will not be bused home from school.

Bus Cancellation - Thursday, June 9

Due to driver shortages for multiple reasons, the following route will be partially canceled for Thursday, June 9:

Bus 40 — Morning routes will be canceled for AHS, Wagar, Eyler and Sterling on Thursday, June 9. Bus 40 will run in the afternoon to drop kids off after school.

Route 12 — High School, Wagar, Eyler and Sterling, both AM & PM routes.

Route 30 — High School and Wagar, PM only.

Bus 10 Partially Cancelled Friday, June 3

Bus 10 is cancelled for tomorrow AFTERNOON, Friday, June 3, for students from AHS, Wagar, and Ritter. Bus 10 will be running in the morning to pick up all children. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Bus Cancellations June 1-3

Due to a lack of available bus drivers, the following buses were canceled or partially canceled this week. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Bus 40 will be canceled Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (June 1-3). If your child is in elementary school and is picked up or dropped off at Carleton Country Day, service will still be available, as Bus 11 will be transporting them.

Bus 1 will not be transporting in the morning for students from AHS, Wagar, Eyler and Sterling (to school), BUT will be transporting in the afternoon (back home) on Wednesday, June 1.

Bus 22 will not be transporting in the morning or afternoon for students from AHS, Wagar and Ritter (to school) on Wednesday, June 1.

Bus 12 Cancelled May 24-27

23rd May 2022

Due to a lack of bus drivers for a variety of reasons, there will be no bus service to or from school for Bus #12 for the remainder of the week. Elementary and secondary students will need transportation to and from school on Tuesday through Friday (5/24 - 5/27). Students on Bus #12 will be transported home this afternoon (5/23).

Airport Community Schools, along with Monroe County Intermediate School District staff, has developed a Parent Support Committee. Its mission is to provide information and resources to our school community, growing our partnership with parents and students.

The Runway: Electronic Parent Newsletter Launches

The first issue of "The Runway," an electronic parent newsletter created by the district's Parent Support Committee recently launched. Click to read.

Airport Community Schools, along with Monroe County Intermediate School District staff, has developed a Parent Support Committee. Its mission is to provide information and resources to our school community, growing our partnership with parents and students.

In response to the survey results received from parents, the district plans to send out our district newsletter, The Runway, each month during the school year. This is a separate newsletter from the Jet Gazette, and it will be sent electronically, as well as posted to our social media sites. It includes curriculum, technology and classroom supports, among other items of interest.

The first newsletter is attached, and we hope you enjoy reading through the elementary, middle and high school pages. Kindergarten Round-Up April 27 & May 17

Is your child turning 5 this year? Kindergarten Round-Up is around the corner! Click for details

Kindergarten Round-Up is scheduled for 4:30-6:45 p.m. April 27 and May 17 at Sterling Elementary School, 160 Fessner Rd. It is by appointment only.

Your child must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2022 to enroll in kindergarten, or 5 years old by Dec. 1, 2022 to enroll in Young 5s.

To get started, complete the district's online Pre-Enrollment form. Once completed, the Registrar will contact you for a Round-Up appointment. Appointments are first come, first served.

The following are the items needed to register:

  • Completed online registration forms
  • Child's birth certificate
  • Immunization record
  • Two proofs of residency (directly tied to home, like mortgage or utility bill with parent/guardian name)
  • Parent/guardian's driver license or photo ID
  • Court documentation for guardianship, custody, etc.
  • If special education, copy of IEP or 504-plan

At Round-Up, your child will do the following:

  • Receive a free Jets T-shirt
  • Visit a kindergarten classroom
  • Receive a "Welcome to Kindergarten" book
  • Receive a free souvenir photo
  • Complete kindergarten readiness assessment screening, if not already done in preschool
  • Complete Hearing and Vision Screening, provided by the Monroe County Health Department
  • Finalize registration

Opt-In to Receive Text Notifications from District

In our continued efforts to strengthen district communication, we are adding text message to our school messaging system! Click for details.

SMS text message capability will be added to SchoolMessenger Communicate, the system Airport Community Schools already uses for district phone calls and emails. Now we will also be able to send text messages to cell phone numbers whose owners have agreed to receive them. Over the next few weeks, we will be encouraging our Jet families to participate in this program.

We will be officially inviting you to “Opt-In” to text messages on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021. You may also opt-in at any time by simply sending “Y” or “Yes” via short code text message to 67587.
